Lobotomy (Greek: λοβός lobos “lobe (of brain)”; τομή tomē “cut, slice”) is a neurosurgical procedure, a form of psychosurgery, also known as a leukotomy or leucotomy (from the Greek λευκός leukos “clear, white” and tome). It consists of cutting or scraping away most of the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex, the anterior part of the frontal lobes of the brain.
It was in Europe, that lobotomy started. It was a man called Egas Moinz from Portugal, that invented it and who first worked out the first lobotomy in 1935.
Later this was used lot throughout the western word as a method to “cure” the patients. From the 1940’s and until the 1967 some 20 000 people where lobotomized in USA. And perhaps 10 000 in Europe.
The last known to me Lobotomy was performed in 1967 In USA.
So, lobotomizing is to surgically “turn of” a piece in the brain. Now that might sound tempting to many people today especially as we live in a very consumer and stress related every day. Like to switch of the light of parts of the brain. It could sound calming and relaxing. But what is in the frontal lobe of the brain ? Let’s have a look:
The frontal lobe is the part of the brain that controls important skills for humans, such as emotions, problem solving, memory, language, judgment, and social and sexual behavior. It is, in essence, home to our personality and our ability to communicate.
WOW! That is allot of phenomena’s, for a place within the brain. So to turn off this “center” in ones brain is to lobotomize. I would like to create a equation here.
Say you drink 1 liter of Coca cola every day. Now, sugar is very, very, addictive. That is something we know. When you drink this one liter of cola of day, there is specific parts of your brain that is activated. These are the small points within the brain. The more sugar the more activities in these addictive channels. My further point here is that there is no equally activity through the whole brain. That would be what we want to live like, to train our brain every day. Equally. Good health would be to train the whole brain equally in all areas. So that the whole brain was developed through mastering skills and practice. Cognitive manners. I would say that very many people are today still living like that are almost lobotomized. Say you drink 1 liter of sugars beverage every day. That is not that rare to see. There is lots of people that drink allot of sugar drinks every day. And perhaps you watch TV ? Like 2-3 maybe 5-6 hours a day. These activities is not healthy for the brain to sit on your bum and stare at a screen for hours after hours is not healthy at all. The brain needs to be trained and challanged. Reading, dancing, writing, singing, painting, sports, such are good for the brain. And if you drink allot of sugar beverages you are activating and stimulating one specific part in your brain where sugar is addictive. To drink liters of sugar drink everyday are sort of giving intro the energies and reactions to sugar and its addiction. Apart from the sugar addiction it is not good for the rest of the body.
